| Chinese ordinal numbers can be expressed by putting "第(dì) " in front of each cardinal number. for example: |

| Years are also expressed by cardinal numbers and "年(nián)" should be followed. When speaking we say: |
1898年 (yī bā jiǔ bā nián) etc. |
| they can also be written as" 一八九八年" etc. |
A whole date can be expressed as: |
| 1949年10月1日 or 一九四九年十月一日 (the first of October,nineteen froty-nine) and read as " yī jiǔ sì jiǔ nián shí yuè yī rì " etc. |

| Time |
| Time is expressed in this way: hour :minute second. For example: |
| 7:10 (ten past seven), 11:35(eleven thirty-five) etc. |
| They can also be written in Chinese "七点十分" " ,"十一点三十五分". |
